USA Presidential Inauguration_critical literacy

Posted on Tuesday 20 January 2009

Cheers to the world today, as we celebrate the momentous occasion of O’bama’s presidential inauguration.

The last CLIP episode focused on a text set dealing withe the question “What role does government play in creating the conditions for prosperity or poverty?” I think it would be wonderful to include with this text set some of the headlines and everyday texts that have appeared over the last few weeks that make use of the presidential inauguration to sell something, to demand something, to do different kinds of work and to unpack the positions being created for the reader. As readers it would be interesting to note the positions from which we engage with these texts. I’d love to hear what transpires…so drop me a note.

In the meantime…enjoy today!!!

The Power of Blogging_critical literacy podcast

Mitch Joel posted the following on his blog Six Pixels of Separation. Very interesting to consider implications for literacy education and getting the word out to the world about the work we do.

BtoB Online has a news item today titled, BuzzLogic/JupiterResearch study finds blogs influence purchase behavior, which states:

“… among those users who find blog content useful for product decisions, 56% said blogs with a niche focus and topical expertise serve as key sources of information. The top categories in which users find blogs useful for purchase decisions are technology products (31%), media and entertainment (15%), games and sporting goods (14%), travel (12%), automotive (11%) and health services (10%). The study also found that 40% of blog readers have taken action as a result of viewing an ad on a blog.”
