Welcome to Show 64 of the CLIP Podcast. Tonight I have for you another multi-modal text set which is a combination of print based, Purchase amoxicillin, music, media, art based texts, amongst other kinds of text, that focus on a particular topic or issue. What I like most about these text sets is that they provide for us opportunities to think about certain issues in multiple ways and often from multiple perspectives, lotrisone Without A Prescription. When we read any text, nexium Without A Prescription, listen to any song, view any piece of art or film, and so forth , we do so from particular ideological positions, Cheap avapro Online, we can’t avoid this because the experiences we’ve had, the discourses or the ways of being, talking, doing that we’ve lived become tools that we use, whether consciously or not when making meaning in the world. So these discourses inform the positions from which we are able to communicate in the world, Discount risperdal Online. They also influence the ways in which what we communicate positions others in the world. Text sets therefore better inform our thinking on particular topics or issues because they allow us to read one text against another or to rub one text against another.
In tonight’s episode is Marissa Campos talking about Disrupting Gender Stereotypes.

Wecome to show 29 of the CLIP Podcast. This week, I’m breaking clip tradition by releasing two shows. Today's show is the second in what I hope to be many crossover shows between CLIP and Just One More Book, a podcast on children’s books done by Andrea and Mark in their favorite coffee shop in Ottawa, imitrex Pill. As most of you know Just One More book is one of the podcasts on my must listen list. Over the past six months we’ve created through the air waves a very enjoyable, supportive, and respectful relationship which I value very much.
Tomorrow I'll be releasing part 2 of my conversation with Heather Jopling, Discount lotrisone Online.
For today's show what Andrea, Mark, and I have done is deliberately choose the same text, Tudley Didn’t Know , a picture book by John Himmelman, from which to build an episode on a show we have both released today. Imitrex Pill, I love that we are able to take advantage of podcasting as a tool for transcending space and bringing to you complimentary perspectives and discussions , from two different shows, on the same text. You can access Just One More Book at www.justonemorebook.com where you will hear Andrea and Mark talk about Tudley.
A friend and colleague, Jerry Harste notes, when we read something, we usually have an initial response or reaction, which may change if we have to defend our response, if we talk to someone with a different interpretation, Accupril Dosage, or if we engage in conversation. He further asserts that to be critically literate we need to know about alternate ways of responding as well as know how our response positions us in the world. He continues by saying too often in the past, we have prepared readers without this kind of agency. In response to this problem he adapted a strategy from David Bleich on supporting readers to develop the habits of mind to seek out multiple (and even conflicting versions) of every story they hear and to “take agency” in fashioning those responses to reflect how they want to position themselves as well as how they wish others to see them in the world, imitrex Pill.
For this crossover show what I decided to do with the help of three colleagues, Jerry Harste from Indiana, Carol Felderman from Virginia and Charlotte Gonzalez also from Virginia, is to offer you ways of thinking about Tudley from different interpretive stances.
In a nutshell, Tudley is a playful book about a young turtle who doesn’t realize there are things that he probably shouldn’t be able to do as a turtle, such as fly, until someone or something else calls attention to it.
The first perspective on Tudley represents an aesthetic stance. Aesthetic responses deal with the emotional experience of reading. Imitrex Pill, Here is an example of an intertextual perspective. In this stance readers make sense of the text in terms of other texts, Cheapest zanaflex.
From a philosophical stance we discussed the notion of universal truths or messages.
The final stance represented in our conversation is a critical perspective, which helps us see the big issues that lie just beyond the text.

Transcript for Childhood Revisited _ CLIP 27
Intro
Hi There. As promised here I am with show 27 of the CLIP Podcast, claritin Side Effects. Thank you for coming back to listen to the show. Nasonex Prescription, I received quite a bit of really thoughtful feedback from the past two shows that I decided to create this show based on that feedback. Next week I’ll be airing an interview with Heather Jopling, author of some very thoughtful and thought-provoking texts such as The Not So Only Child and Ryan’s Mom is Tall.
Before I get on with this week’s show I want to share with you what I believe to be a wonderful compliment and honor that I found out about just before recording this show. Claritin Side Effects, Mark Blevis in his blog at www.markblevis.com included me in his list of top 10 most underrated podcasts. It was such a terrific surprise. Mark is the host of Elecric Sky and co-host of Just One More Book, a podcast that I talk about frequently on CLIP. He also co-hosts the Canadian Podcast Buffet, a show that sustains and nurtures the Canadian Podcasting community. So he is a respected leader in the field and I want to publicly thank you Mark for honoring me and CLIP by including me in your top ten list especially given the other names already on the list.

Audio from Carol Felderman
Thank you very much to Carol Felderman for sending that audio, claritin Side Effects. What is most interesting to me regarding her thoughts are her reflections on her own childhood recalling how she and her brother also participated as consumers of Mcdonalds happy meals. In this case I think what critical literacy has afforded us is a way of talking about some issues and instances of living from a different perspective. I was also very interested in her comment regarding the relationship between power and the happy meal toys, zanaflex Without A Prescription, which her students use as tools for positioning themselves within the classroom community. In a sense these happy meal toys represent a form of cultural capital in their particular setting. Claritin Side Effects, Station id
Midtro
Anna Sumida was inspired by the Happy Meal conversation that she now wants to raise some issues regarding the Happy Meal with students with whom she works to hear what they’d have to say.
Charles Cadenhead, who has a young son and daughter, commented that he finds the girls toys in general to be of a more supportive and cooperative nature than the boy toys which are usually associate with themes of war, fighting and competition.
Andrea who has two young daughters shared a funny story. She said while buzzing around the kitchen in a world of her own, trying to navigate her other 3 house-mates, she noticed her younger daughter Bayla had stopped emptying her lunch bag and was trying repeatedly to tell her something. Andrea finally realized what she was saying “Mom, Cardura No Rr, there’s a bad word on this spoon” (the disposable spoon she had had in her lunch bag). She stopped buzzing and focused on the hard-to-read raised lettering on the black take-out spoon which read “McDonalds”, claritin Side Effects. She says it cracked her up noting “I guess she knows how “we” think!”
Ross of Dry Shave who has a young son, also had a gendered experience with regards to the Happy Meal which he talked about in one of the episodes on his show.
Why are these comments interesting and important to me. Because whether we choose to believe it or not, according to Carmen Luke, although children are not direct income earners, they are in charge of more pocket money than in the past, and they also exert significant power over parental purchase choices so helping them to learn about being informed consumers really does matter.

Negotiating Social Action Projects_CLIP21
Partial Transcript
Hello Everyone. You are listening to show 21 of the CLIP podcast, Cheap clarinex Online. Tonight’s show is part two of a three part series, which was recorded on the beautiful island of Hawaii, at the International Reading Association’s Regional Conference which was held there two weeks ago.
I focused my talk on particular critical moves in my life as a literacy educator. In today’s segment you will hear me talking about the second move, Buy kamagra Online, which I refer to as Negotiating Spaces for Critical Literacy. Some of you may have heard me share this story in show number 1. Cheap clarinex Online, My experience in presenting this work has sometimes been met with skepticism regarding whether or not my students really were able to participate in projects dealing with such deep and often difficult social issues. So today, what I will do is take you on brief journey to familiarize you with some of the sights and sounds of the classroom.
The School Site
The school was located in a very diverse, multi ethnic, middle class community just outside Metropolitan Toronto in Ontario, Canada. Although the socio economic context has been designated ‘middle class’, this was not straightforward. Within this area, there were homes occupied by more than one family. The class was a half -day pre school group that met from 8.45am – 11.15am, M-F, Cheap clarinex Online.
Physical Environment and Resources
-The physical space of the classroom was flexible enough to incorporate changes and provide room for innovation and improvisation.
-A wide range of rich resources such as videos, news articles, music, books, everyday texts, art posters and web sites were available. Along with materials needed to support the study of the different issues that interested the class, accupril No Rr.
-Observation was an important feature of practice, as it enabled me to build on children’s interests in important and reflective ways. Cheap clarinex Online, -The carefully constructed environment offered children physical, social, emotional and cognitive spaces in which to engage in their critical projects and, to become co-researchers and participants in collaborative activities.
The Curriculum
The curriculum emerged in an organic way from the cultural and social practices in which my students and I engaged.
Classroom practice was the result of a complex dynamic of theorized practice, each one informing the other. Critical literacy theories impacted approaches to teaching, but the effects of these approaches and the issues raised in practice also affected the theories and understanding of them. The curriculum was not free from curricular mandates and the threat of standardized testing. The School Board dictated specific programs to follow, Cheap clarinex Online. As the classroom teacher, I made sure that I understood what was expected of me through the mandated curriculum in order to demonstrate to parents, colleagues and administrators that our negotiated curriculum surpassed the required curriculum. I did this as a way of creating as much space as I could to engage in the literacy work that I felt would offer my students more opportunities for contributing to social change and that would give them access to more powerful literacies.
As a context for negotiating critical literacies with young children, a critical perspective provided my students with opportunities, as noted by Comber (2005) to;
-Engage with local realities,
-Research and analyze language / power relationships, practices and effects.
-Mobilize students’ knowledge and practices, Discount xenical Without Prescription, -(Re) design texts with political and social intent and real world use,
-Subvert taken for granted ‘school’ texts,
-Focus on students’ use of local cultural texts, and
-Examine how power is exercised and by whom
