This podcast is very insightful. I was drawn to it because it talked about racism and children’s books, both of which interest me. After listening to it, the point that actually interested me most was the mention of the Tylenol ad that relies on an image of a child dressed in a stereotypical, costume-like feathered headdress that is meant to evoke images of Native Americans and, further, the saying that wildly-behaving children are acting like “wild Indians.” The mention of this ad made me realize that being critically literate is not only important in analyzing media that is presented to young children, it’s important when analyzing any and all media.
