Friday 5 on Saturday…

Andy December 7th, 2008

My good friend and fellow Halloween’er, Jen Tucker, has put into motion a way for a group of us to blog more. One of the idea sparkers is something that she’s brought over from LiveJournal. It’s called the “Friday 5″. I’m still playing catch up on the history of it all but, it the whole exercise revolves around answering 5 questions on Friday…hence the name. Here is my first go at these.

1. Would you consider yourself an organized person? Why or why not?

I had to answer this question last, since it was the hardest to answer for me. I think there are times that I get myself organized but my life is pretty simple and I can deal with disorganization and I have pretty good searching skills. ;-) If I put something away, I am able to recall where it is. I like the idea of “a place for everything and everything in it’s place” but I have a hard time living it. As a full time Dad, husband and employee I find that my schedule is more fluid and carving out time for myself is difficult. I wish I could create a regular schedule to pursue some of the things I enjoy… computer programming and podcasting.

2. Do you keep some type of planner, organizer, calendar, etc. with you, and do you use it regularly?

Yes I do. At work we use an Exchange server with Outlook calendar support so I have an electronic version of my schedule on my Blackberry and my iPod Touch at all times. Outside of work, I have a very simple life not really needing organization. :)

3. Would you say that your desk is organized right now?

My desk at home and work are usually tidy. I don’t have a lot of stuff on either desk, a single note pad and a pencil usually. It’s not that hard to keep that organized. I live the electronic life. Notes, lists etc are created, edited and used with the aid of a variety of online services and handheld devices.

4. Do you alphabetize CDs, books, and DVDs, or does it not matter?

I do not and it so doesn’t matter.

5. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to organize?

Before my wife and I were married, we were co-directors for an overnight camp for learning challenged kids and young adults. We had to plan and organize the entire summer for a staff of 20 and as many as 150 children for 2 week stints My nature is to be impulsive, spontaneous and highly adaptable so to sit down, plan and organize things was probably the limit of abilities. Thank goodness my wife is highly organized so we make a formidable team!
